Forensics Project Checklist

Title – Final Title should clearly describe the materials to be covered. (An appropriate quote is optional here.)

Section 1a. Vocabulary:

This section should contain all the vocabulary related to this topic. Include words that may have a more specific or slightly different meaning even if it is in common usage. When determining which words to include – ask yourself – is this word used to explain an aspect of this topic? Is the word in common usage but used more specifically with respect to this topic? Would a high school student know the meaning of this word or have to look it up? With all the background research you have done you should be able to begin your vocabulary list. Before you create the final product you will have added and deleted quite a few words. So start now by underlining words in the readings you are doing. Add them to your “dynamic list” and just keeping modifying until you find your end point.

Section 1b. Mastery Objectives and Critical Skills: Don’t get too carried away here. You are really looking at 3 – 7 objectives/skills. But remember you are making a dynamic list that you will edit as you research your material. The question you ask yourself is – “What should the student know about the topic and what critical skills should the student be able to demonstrate by the end of this unit?” The end of term test is crafted around these objectives and skills.

Section 2a. Required Readings covered on Tests and Quizzes: As you read through the many articles on line and in books ask yourself “Does this article give the student an age appropriate information that is relevant and useful with resepct to the topic. The articles. Web materials you chose should be available in hard copy for your own reference and as handouts.

Section 3 – Anticipated In Class Activities: What are you going to Do in this Unit? How is the student going to pend their time? This should include such activities as lectures/labs, videos, class projects, speakers, etc.

Section 4 – Outside Class Assignments: Here is where you give students the opportunity to practice using those mastery objectives and critical skills as well as the related vocabulary. This section should also include questions from the assigned readings and projects.

Section 5 – Outside Class Activities and Bonus Points: You may want to include some “stretch” activities that a student who is really excited about the topic can pursue. Have them visit a place, build a collections, research a related topic.
